Under the patronage of the President of the University of Kirkuk, Professor Dr. Imran Jamal Hassan, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Assistant Professor Dr. Osamah Ibrahim Ahmed, the Afforestation Unit, in cooperation with the Departments of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering, Forestry Sciences, and the Continuing Education Division, organized activities marking National Tree Planting Day, observed on March 12.
The Head of the Afforestation Unit at the college, Asst. Lecturer Omaima Abdul-Samad Hassan, explained that the activities included a scientific seminar titled “The Sustainable University Campus,” delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raad Wahib, which addressed the importance of tree planting in supporting green coverage within the university campus, its role in improving the university environment, and promoting environmental sustainability concepts, in addition to highlighting the importance of preserving trees and expanding green spaces due to their positive impact on both the environment and society.
The activities also included the distribution of awareness brochures introducing the importance and objectives of National Tree Planting Day in spreading environmental awareness, as well as implementing a tree-planting campaign within the university campus with the participation of faculty members, staff, and students. This initiative aimed to support environmental programs, promote a culture of volunteer work, preserve the environment, and achieve the concept of a green university.
