Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources
The Department of Soil Sciences was established in 2010, and the development process aimed to supply the labor market with graduates specialized in studying the layers of soil that are exploited by plants of various types, from herbaceous to forest trees. The department’s vocabulary includes studying the emergence and formation of these layers, their classification, their physical and chemical characteristics, and the organisms that live in them, as well as their influence on various Surrounding environmental factors. The department also studies steps to improve soil. Later, the department was developed and began to study water resources along with soil, and the name was created for that.
The master's degree study was introduced in the department in 2020, and the department has future plans to introduce a doctoral study after completing the requirements for its introduction. The scientific department participated in the Dutch Nuffic programs on water management and soil improvement, and the department's teaching staff has effective participation within the scientific committees and discussions inside and outside the university.
The department has two specialized laboratories in which all practical curricula for academic subjects included in the department’s curriculum are studied. It also organizes frequent scientific visits for its students to various sites, soils, and irrigation projects to increase students’ knowledge. The department is headed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Salah Jasim Amin.
Vision:
