The Afforestation Unit at the College of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Department of Forestry Sciences and the Continuing Education Division, and in collaboration with civil activist Mr. Nabz Sabah Taher, organized an awareness seminar titled Afforestation as a Pillar of Environmental Sustainability, with the attendance and participation of the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Adnan Shakour Ahmed, the Head of the Department of Forestry Sciences, Assistant Professor Dr. Matin Yilmaz Ezz Al-Din, as well as faculty members and students of the college.
The Head of the Afforestation Unit at the college, Assistant Lecturer Omaima Abdul-Samad Hassan, explained that the seminar aimed to enhance environmental awareness and highlight the importance of afforestation in protecting the environment and improving the local climate. It also reviewed best scientific practices in afforestation and the selection of suitable tree species for different environments, while encouraging students and the university community to actively participate in afforestation campaigns and environmental projects.
She added that organizing such seminars comes within the college’s efforts to support environmental sustainability and social responsibility, as well as to link theoretical education with practical applications on campus.
