The Department of Animal Production, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Division at the College of Agriculture, organized an awareness seminar on chemical and biological contaminants and drug residues in meat and their impact on human health. The seminar was officially attended by the Kirkuk Provincial Council, represented by Mr. Abdullah Miroweis, as well as researchers, specialists in animal production, and faculty members and students of the college.

The seminar aimed to shed light on the most significant chemical and biological contaminants that accumulate in meat and their effects on human health.

The seminar included lectures delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Adnan Shakur Ahmed Al-Perkhedri and Assistant Professor Dr. Ismat Jamal Jameel, who discussed the impact of contaminants on human health.

The seminar concluded with several recommendations, including:

  • Increasing production efficiency and strengthening coordination between Iraq and neighboring countries in the production, marketing, and monitoring of meat.

  • Establishing an advanced regulatory body to monitor contaminants in animal products and define specifications for products permitted for import and circulation.

  • Determining appropriate scientific testing methods for each type of examination.

  • Issuing regulations that include controls and penalties for violators.

  • Raising consumer awareness about the dangers of meat contamination to human health.

  • Avoiding the excessive use of medications and growth promoters.

  • Monitoring veterinary products and obligating breeders to comply with drug withdrawal periods.

  • Encouraging research and studies in these fields.
