Assistant Professor Dr. Wael Fahmi Abdulrahman, a faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Kirkuk, participated as a lecturer in an extension seminar organized by the Agricultural Extension and Training Center in Kirkuk, in cooperation with the Kirkuk Agriculture Directorate, titled “The Role of Vegetation Cover in Combating Desertification and Reducing Pollution.”

The lecturer explained that his presentation highlighted the importance of combating desertification, as vegetation cover helps stabilize soil, prevent erosion and sand encroachment, preserve soil moisture, and reduce drought. It also improves the environment by reducing the impact of winds and high temperatures, purifies the air by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, reduces pollution by minimizing dust, enhances water and soil quality, and supports sustainability by increasing soil fertility and maintaining ecological balance.
