Assistant Professor Dr. Mateen Yilmaz Izidin, a faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Kirkuk, participated as a lecturer in a field demonstration organized by the Agricultural Extension and Training Center in Kirkuk, in cooperation with the Kirkuk Agriculture Directorate – Laylan Agriculture Division, and the Local Farmers’ Associations Union. The session focused on how to cultivate and manage ornamental plants and cut flowers, with the participation of a group of farmers.

The lecturer explained that the theoretical part of his presentation addressed the economic, aesthetic, and environmental importance of ornamental plants, introduced suitable varieties for local conditions and their environmental requirements, and covered propagation methods (seeds, cuttings, bulbs), planting times, and planting techniques. It also included essential crop management practices such as irrigation, fertilization, weeding, pruning, as well as pest and disease management, prevention, and control methods.

He added that the practical part included a field tour in the nursery to identify species and varieties, hands-on training in soil preparation and growing media, practical implementation of planting and propagation (through cuttings and seeds), field management practices, plant care organization, and training on assessing plant health and proper methods for harvesting and preserving flowers.
