Dr. Ali Abbas Ali, a faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Kirkuk, delivered a lecture at a scientific awareness seminar organized by the Palace of Culture and Arts in Kirkuk Province titled “A Poisoned Future: Scenarios of Public Health Collapse Due to Chemical Agriculture.” The seminar was attended by Mr. Abdullah Miroweis, Head of the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee in the Kirkuk Provincial Council, along with representatives of relevant departments, specialists, and researchers.
The lecturer explained the negative effects of chemical pesticides and fertilizers on human health and the environment, warning of the dangers of their random and unregulated use. He also highlighted internationally banned pesticides, the long-term effects of nitrates and carcinogenic compounds, and their implications for food security and future generations.
During his lecture, he proposed solutions to the problems and challenges associated with the indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, emphasizing the importance of adopting safe and sustainable agricultural production methods.
