The University of Kirkuk organizes a scientific advisory symposium on industrial potatoes

The College of Agriculture, with the Nahard Group of Companies, held a scientific advisory symposium on industrial potatoes, their economic importance, environmental requirements, storage and marketing, and the future of its cultivation in Kirkuk Governorate, in the presence of the dean and members of the college, agricultural departments, and farmers. The Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Osama Ibrahim Ahmed, stated that the symposium aimed to shed light on the economic importance and nutritional value of industrial potatoes, knowledge of environmental conditions and service operations, harvesting, storage, and marketing operations, environmental factors determining the success of potato crop cultivation, and the role of media and agricultural extension in spreading awareness and education of the importance The economic crop of industrial potatoes, their products, and appropriate varieties.The symposium included three lectures. The first lecture dealt with harvesting, marketing, and storing potatoes, while the other dealt with industrial potato production in Iraq and its uses. The third lecture showed the most important problems and obstacles to potato cultivation and the role of agricultural extension in spreading its cultivation.The symposium came out with several recommendations, the most important of which is the need to support production in setting an agricultural policy for the production of the potato crop, establishing centers for sorting and packing the potato crop in particular, as it is one of the basics of the marketing process, and closing borders and not allowing imports during the period of local production.
